Food - Japanese : Menya Musashi

麺屋武蔵 - Menya Musashi

Was at this new eco mall at buona vista recently and was looking around for food. The star is design so that the whole place is open-air with shops having their own individual air con unit. The mall itself is not air-conditioned, pretty cool for a after rainy day. Not too sure about bright sunny or rainy day though.

There are quite a handful of eateries and we decide to settle ourseleves in this ramen shop that claim to be the best seller and Number 1 ramen in japan.

Shop Front at The Star : Menya Musashi
The shop itself is a small japanese style ramen shop with small tables and chairs, sitting of maybe less than 15? its an open kitchen concept so you can see whats going on in the kitchen.

The main focus of the restuarant is of course ramen, they serve side dishes too. We ordered 2 types of ramen with different soup base. They have a total of 3 soup base namly : White (original) , Black (garlic) , Red (spicy) .

Our orders are Cha Siew ramen in white soup and Duck ramen black soup.  First taste of the soup is very thick. I can see floating garlic on the soup which adds to the taste of it.  The soup taste even thicker than the original soup base and a tat too oily.

White : Original Soup Base
Cha siew ramen comes with 2 pcs of cha siew , half cooked tamago, seaweed and some vege.

After drinking a few mouth of the soup i can feel a layer form in my mouth and its really not my preferred kind of soup base i feel that its just too oily and as much as i can remember i dun recall other ramen soup base to give me this after taste.

Black : Garlic Soup Base
The duck ramen comes with 4 pcs of smoked duck slices, half cooked tamago and condiments.

Seriously after eating the ramen i just have the urge to find something to drink and wash away the oil and after taste. However i do read of reviews indicating that they like the soup so i guess food tasting is afterall very subjective to individual taste bud.

Half cooked tamago
The tamago is not too bad in terms of the taste but i would prefer it to be a little bit more watery than solid that it is being prepared.

The total bill came up to $33.90 for 2 and we are super full.
